Generalised anxiety

Anxiety is a natural emotion to experience as part of daily life. However, getting caught up with anxious thoughts and feelings can lead to distress and the need to try and control it. This can get in the way of daily activities and relationships.

pregnancy, birth & postnatal anxiety

Pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period can be filled with worry, uncertainty and feeling out of control. The mind is a powerful tool and we can better utilise it to help influence our mindset and how to cope with these anxieties.

work stress

Work in this highly competitive and pressured culture can generate stress and anxiety. Feelings triggered from uncertainty, change or conflicts can be difficult to manage, influencing difficulty in achieving fulfilling work life balance.

life transitions

Life transitions can include career change, infertility, conception difficulties, parenthood, menopause, retirement and relationship breakdown. The adjustment is a vital part in processing change and emotions.

  • Are you a chest breather or a belly breather? Breathing from our stomachs gives us more effective breaths which helps to boost relaxation by boosting more oxygen in our bodies. Take these 4 steps 1. Relax your shoulders 2. Place your hand on your stomach 3. Breathe gently in and out through your nose 4. Notice the natural rhythm of the rise and fall of your belly. So simple but so effective in boosting your wellbeing!

  • A natural response to fear is to run! It is an important part of our fear response. However, we can find ourselves spending a lot of the time avoiding or running away from things. It can be helpful to consider what you may be avoiding and what it actually is you want instead? Leading a ‘towards’ driven life can be much more fulfilling. What is one towards move you can make today?

  • Endorphins are neurotransmitters that act on the opiate receptors of the brain, providing the benefits of boosting mood and reducing anxiety and pain.
Exercise can be a brilliant activity to release endorphins so although exercise can feel uncomfortable, our brain will reward us with a welcome endorphin boost!

  • When uncomfortable feelings show up it can feel like they are going to stay and persist. However thinking of feelings like the weather can help to reassure us that feelings pass and change, it’s a constant process. So remember to stop getting hooked on a feeling by practising the following:- Notice the feeling and name the sensation in your body; Know that it won’t last and other feelings will come along; Allow the feeling to pass.
We can’t always control our feelings but we can learn to not get overwhelmed by them

  • Adrenalin is a chemical that can flood into our body when our mind detects danger. It is useful when there is a danger we need to run away from or fight, helping blood to pump to our muscles faster. If not needed, it is a physically exhausting experience. Learning about our threat system, recognising it and being able to calm it, helps to reduce stress and anxiety.
